Phase 1: Creature Mark
Objective: graphically interpret a creature using fundamental elements of design and to communicate a set number of unique physical, behavioral, and personality traits. Explore ways to retain meanings and qualities of a natural form while translating it into a graphic language.
Characteristics of a hippo include: Large and in charge, round-shaped body, and extremely aggressive. Body shape is barrel-shaped, thick-skinned, and ears, eyes, and nostrils are located on the skull. I integrated the hippo's physical, behavioral, and personality traits into its visual design. In my final iteration, I applied the Gestalt principle of closure to emphasize the hippo's massive scale by leaving part of the stomach outline to the viewer's imagination.

Phase 2: form: graphic elements + type + image
Objective: explore a variety of visual communication and linguistic methods. Visual problem solving and compositional skills must specifically address the relationships between form and content.
I made the word “Hippo” large because hippos are a very large animal. And then integrated the word “tiptoe” into the design in a texture that is supposed to look like grass, which is what hippos eat, and also camouflage into the background.
